Write a 3 – 5 page paper (NOT including the title or references page!) in which you analyze and evaluate the pros and cons of 2 different nutrition plans (Example: Paleo, Whole30, Atkins, 5:2, Ketogenic, Macrobiotic, Mediterranean, South Beach, Vegan, Weight Watchers, Zone, Vegetarian, etc.).
Compare and contrast the 2 nutrition plans based on scientific research in relation to incidence of chronic disease (stroke, heart attack, diabetes, cancer), longevity, and overall health and wellness.
Based on your findings, which of the 2 nutrition plans would you recommend & why? Explain, Be Specific
Your entire paper should be in APA format (Essay Format) (See APA Guidelines in the module for details); double spaced, font color – black, font size – 12, font style – Time New Roman, with a cover page, and References page in APA format. Include an introduction paragraph, body, and a conclusion paragraph. A minimum of 3 references must be used (Websites, Journal Articles, Textbook). Note: Quotes should RARELY be used in formal papers if ever!
Some of the basics to remember when writing a formal paper:
1) Proper grammar and punctuation
2) Include an introduction and conclusion paragraph
3) Indent paragraphs
4) First sentence of the paragraph should be the topic of the paragraph
5) Paragraphs should be a minimum of 3-to-4 well thought out and constructed sentences
6) Cite material if it needs to be cited
7) Paper has a clear organization and flow
8) Refrain from using direct quotes
9) Do not use “I”
10) Do not start sentences with “Because”
11) Try not to use the word “that” if you can help it as it’s over used
12) Do not over use commas when they are not necessary as this is a very common error.
13) Do not say, “Based on studies and/or research” without citing the specific studies or research.

Read the scenario below
Provide five tips to the student to help him get back on track. PLEASE bold, underline or number your five suggestions for Johnny so it’s easier for your classmates and me to identify them.
Read your classmates’ posts and strive to make your tips unique from your classmates’ tips.
Respond to at least two different classmates primary post.
Use complete sentences, correct spelling and grammar, and well-written and organized paragraphs. You are required to cite at least one of your course resources in your primary post to show how you have applied what you have read.
Grades will reflect how well you have followed these guidelines. I am eager to see each individual’s posts and interact with you.
Scenario
Johnny’s largest meal of the day is late in the evening. Twice a week he prepares his own hot dinners at his dorm. The other nights he eats frozen convenience foods, microwave dinners, fast food, or cold sandwiches. His friends have mentioned to him that his eating habits may affect his health, but Johnny has explained that he is an athlete and needs to eat the way he does to have energy to compete at a college level. He has seen no change in his weight over the past few months, either up or down, not even with weight training activities. He has not been to the doctor in a year, but as a student athlete is required to see the doctor once every year, and so he will schedule an appointment in the upcoming weeks in preparation for lacrosse season.
Johnny wants to be the best athlete possible and his friends’ concerns have made him think about his eating habits. He has visited you at the student health center where you are volunteering with the nutrition office as part of your nutrition class. What advice can you give Johnny about sports nutrition and his current eating habits? Please give him at least five tips. Note: Please clearly indicate your tips in your response by bolding, underlining or numbering them (if I can’t locate them, I can’t grade them).

Read the sections of chapters 11 and 12 in your textbook (starting on page 245)

Read the sections of chapters 11 and 12 in your textbook (starting on page 245) dealing with drug-nutrient or herbal/supplement-nutrient interactions and answer the following questions:
Have you ever encountered a situation in which you experienced (or had another person experience) a drug (OTC or prescription), herbal, or supplement-nutrient interaction? If so, explain what it was. If you have not, research a common interaction and explain it. Your explanation should include what drugs, herbs, or supplements and nutrient(s) are involved as well as the possible result of the interaction. Note that you are not to report on the side effects of a drug, herb or supplement, but rather how these might interact with a nutrient (in foods or in supplemental form) and result in a negative effect.
When you looked for information on the interaction where did you look? How were your questions or concerns addressed?
Where, in your experience, does the public turn to for information on drugs, herbs, or supplements? Are these sources usually reputable? How would you determine if a source, whether a person or an article or other, is reputable?
Do you think healthcare professionals have met the challenge of helping people find suitable nutritional supplements? Why or why not? How might socioeconomic status come into play when choosing between or within prescription medications or OTC medications/supplements/herbs? If someone needed to determine if nutrient status was being compromised because of an interaction, what tests could be done?

Background: Over the semester we have focused on: 1) understanding the changing nutrition needs, conditions and interventions for major stages of the lifecycle 2) determinants of health and nutrition status 3) the Nutrition Care Process. We have learned about these topics through passive learning strategies (reading, listening, watching) and active learning strategies (exchanging ideas with peers, case studies, and practice activities). We have also gained experienced practicing the Nutrition Assessment Component of the Nutrition Care Process which requires critical thinking and problem solving. The purpose of this discussion is to share your reflections with me on what you have learned and will take away from this course.
Answer each question:
If you had to summarize the many reasons that nutrient needs change across the lifecycle, what would you say?
Briefly describe some of the determinants of health based on category (environmental, personal, socioeconomic, etc.). Describe your role as a professional in addressing multiple determinants of health that may impact your clients’/patients’ nutrition status. Provide a sample scenario to help me understand your thoughts.
What did you like most about this course? You can share more than one.
What did you like least about this course? You can share more than one. What would you do differently to change this aspect of the course to make it better?
How do you think you might use what you learned in this course in the future? In your career? In your personal life?

Guidelines
Create a video presentation to be submitted via WebCampus/Canvas (using the recording feature Panopto Recordingtab to the left) that addresses each of the content areas. (I will be the only one viewing this video). The video presentation may be a PowerPoint presentation with you talking over it (which you will upload, record and edit through Panopto), or it may be an actual video of you demonstrating the recipe (again, through Panopto) {recipe may already be prepared to save time in your video, but go through the steps used} and talking about the culture that dish comes from, which should include the points listed above.
As part of the presentation you are asked to select 1 recipe that includes a traditional food item and prepare it, or at least discuss how it should be prepared. You can provide still pictures here as well to lend to your overall description or you can film yourself making it. Please note that using OTHER YOUTUBE VIDEOS to show how to prepare your recipe will result in 0 points for that portion. YOU must be the one to either prepare it or discuss the process. And physically preparing it yourself on camera is NOT a requirement, but an option. You are also not required to spend any money to fulfill this portion of the assignment.
Creative and sensory appeal is encouraged in the video (cooking utensils, samples of music from the area, spices used in traditional recipes). Get creative!
Be sure the presentation includes
-Coverage of Cultural Perspective
-Coverage of Traditional Food Habits
-Coverage of Contemporary Food Habits
-Sensory Aids (visual/sound/graphics/photos)
– 1 Recipe Demonstration OR Explanation
– 3+ References that should be included on the last frame/slide of your video using APA formatting/guidelines

This work does not require many words as far as I understand, just needs good and correct information.
below are the instructions for the assignment and the assignment
come with 2 part
For U1-L5 part: This is the chart to input your recipe modifications. You will notice that the “ingredients” column is not divided as you can input any amount of ingredients you want. Remember, less is more!
All of the conversion elements of the assignment have been practiced in lessons prior. Use this activity as practice for your upcoming unit test where the recipe may get more complex.
For U2-L2 part: For this assignment, we will be conducting another recipe makeover similar to the assignment done in Unit 1 Lesson 5. However, this time you will be required to take any recipe and change it to a vegan or vegetarian dish. After going through both parts of our lesson, you will be provided with sufficient knowledge on what vegetarians eat and what foods are available to supplement for meat, fish, and milk based products.
You are required to submit a picture of the food (this would be before it was redesigned by you), a 6 point list in the middle of the document of reasons why people choose to become vegetarian or vegan, and finally the newly transformed recipe along with the original which can be scanned or a link can be posted online where you retrieved the recipe from.
In addition, feel free to use your own recipe!
Cite sources where appropriate
If still not clear, example and explanation video can be provided

Research Writing
Assignment
Total
possible points: 200
Intro: Currently 30-50% of seniors over age 85 have
Alzheimer’s disease. The number of new
cases will double every 5 years for seniors approaching 65 years of age. (Chapt
12).
Instructions:
In
a minimum 9-10 pages (includes cover, abstract and reference page), double spaced
document, APA format. This research paper
will discuss several aspects of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). You are always welcome to go over 10 pages,
(do what you need to do to get the below questions answered THOROUGHLY). Be sure to Answer each of the following questions in your
paper for full credit. The references
at the end of book chapt 12 will help. You
can look them up and use them for your answers.
Read the original paper for the information. You will not get credit for quoting the
book. You can also get statistics from www.alz.org.
The
1)
What
are some of the current statistics and future statistics for AD in the US and the
world. What will be the costs and who
will pay for the costs. The book’s statistics are old, find newer
ones.
2)
What
is the currently known pathophysiology of the disease. What body systems are affected and how are they affected. What does the disease do to the body how does
it impact the patient’s life.
3)
What
are the differences between a patient with early onset AD and one who gets it
later in life. Discuss life style,
physical differences, treatment and diagnoses differences.
4)
How
is the disease currently diagnosed and what NEW research is being done to
diagnose.
5)
What
are the current treatments and what NEW research is being done? Discuss some of the medications and their
potential side effects.
6)
What
special nutrition related considerations
might there be for an AD patient? Provide
a one day diet including breakfast, lunch and dinner plus a snack that would be
appropriate for an 80 Y/O AD patient. Make
a chart and insert into the body of your paper.
Include feeding technique ideas to assist the care-giver.
7)
Discuss
some prevention theories: exercise, diet, life-style changes.
Appropriate
sources for current research on this topic are peer-reviewed research articles (try searching in PubMed via the
library – The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is an example
of a peer-reviewed journal, or the references in your book at the end of chapter
12, or www.alz.org, or American Medical
Association). Cite all your sources in
the text paragraphs like this ex:
(Robinson, 2014) and you should have TONS of these in your paper, everything
in your paper should have a citation. Also
put the full reference at the end on the reference page in APA format. If you don’t know already, peer reviewed means
that other health professionals have reviewed it and think the document is
legit. Non-peer reviewed is someone just
writing their opinion in an article or blog and it is just that…their
opinion. Do not use opinions unless it
is yours. If citing from web pages they
must be legit sources. Again, can you go
over 10 pages?…. of course, but make it good. I love the idea that you enjoyed writing this
and learned a lot and did not think it was a chore or just counting pages and
words. Remember, your grandparents,
parents, neighbors, patients, current and future spouses and maybe even
yourself might be one afflicted with AD in the future. Be a part of the solution, not the
problem.
I
will be looking for the following criteria in your paper.
1.
Were
all of the questions above answered satisfactorily? (120 points)
2.
Were
appropriate sources (peer-reviewed articles) utilized for research? (40 points) Minimum of 3 and your book is NOT one of the
3 but looking up the sources in the back of the chapt works. Use the UH library people to help you, that’s
their job.
3.
Were
all sources cited and included in APA formatted bibliography? (20 points) (APA format is on Blackboard if you need to
look at it)
4.
Entertainment
value (was it interesting)? (20 points)
Again,
if having problems finding sources, AARP, or AD websites are good starts, look
under research or articles tab. And also
go to the UH library and search under PUBMED.
The librarians can help you.
