Purpose and central content
The purpose is to practice one’s leadership in a self-chosen subject area. Communication, collaboration and motivational factors within an organized activity.
Leadership at different levels, leadership styles and leadership roles. In connection with this, personal leadership development and how to utilize one’s own and others’ resources are treated.
You must plan and organize a workshop / activity. You are free to choose the content of your workshop and the time you have to plan for is at least 40-60 min (can also be a planning for a longer period that extends over several weeks with several activities). You must therefore come up with an activity for a group (can be a working group, class, sports team, etc.) that you plan and describe in text.
Planning includes a detailed descriiption of your workshop as well as your purpose and goals with the activity (based on the purpose and the central content above).
In the planning, you must also justify your choices, describe which problems may arise and which possible solutions you can see.
It is important that you adapt your planning and your leadership based on the group (you have different types of individuals in your group). You choose which individuals are in the group you are to lead (you can find individuals or use a real group or mix different individuals that you know).
Try to use models and theories that you learned in the course, explain these and use in your planning to adapt the activity and leadership to the intended group and its individuals. Think about and describe how to handle unexpected events such as absence, conflicts, changed conditions (both external and internal). Use situational leadership, conflict management, authoritarian leadership style, the circle of safety by Simon sinek “The why how and what” , relational leadership for a well written paper.
Remember to use as much leadership theories as you can and apply them to the chosen activity for a well written paper.
All of you have probably read quite a bit about the world’s wealthiest man—Bill Gates. But some of you are probably not nearly as familiar with Bill Gates’s main rival and world’s seventh wealthiest man, former Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. Ellison recently retired as Chief Executive officer (CEO) but is still active as the chair of Oracle’s board of directors. Unlike Gates, who is relatively reserved, Ellison is known for his extravagant lifestyle and boastful interviews.
The rivalry between Ellison and Gates is legendary, but not quite as much is known about Ellison’s leadership style. He has been described as a “jerk,” and his managerial style has been described as “take no prisoners.” While he is unquestionably a powerful leader, he has also been criticized for spending a lot of time playing golf while leaving many leadership duties to his subordinates.
For this assignment, read up on leadership traits, leadership behaviors, and leadership styles in the required background materials. Then read up on Larry Ellison and find as much as you can about his personality and leadership style. Finally, try to apply what you’ve read in the required background materials about leadership traits, behaviors, and styles to what you found out about Larry Ellison.
Here are some articles to get you started on your research about Ellison:

Once you are finished with your research on Ellison and have thoroughly reviewed the background materials on leadership traits, behaviors, and styles, write a 3-page paper (excluding title and references pages) to include 3 scholarly sources addressing the questions below. For each answer, make sure to cite at least one of the Case Assignment articles listed on this page as well as one of the required textbook chapters from the background materials from Hiriyappa (2009), or Bauer & Erdogan (2012).
1. How would you describe Ellison’s leadership style?
2. How would you describe Ellison’s personality and leadership traits?
3. Would you describe Ellison’s behavior as being task-oriented, or people/relationship-oriented?
4. Would you describe Ellison’s leadership style as diverse and inclusive? If so or if not, please explain your response.
1. Your Case Assignment should be at least 3 pages in length (excluding title and reference pages).
2. Be sure to cite and reference (using APA Style) a minimum of 3 scholarly sources listed in the Course Materials and Bibliography (Module 1 Required and Optional Reading List), or in the Module 1 Background Page: Required and Optional Readings.
3. Upload your paper to the Module 1 Case Dropbox before the assignment due date.
4. Include both a reference page and in-text citations. Citation and reference style instructions are available at Trident University’s Introduction to APA Style, 7th edition .
The video you will view (see below) is an opening scene from the movie “Jerry Maguire.” In this scene, the character played by Tom Cruise is having doubts about the ethical issues in the sports representation business. In an impulsive moment, he decides to write a new mission statement for his company. In this document, Jerry Maguire argues that the priority of the company should be more on relationships with the athletes they represent, and less concern for the money and financial gains. When he enters the office the next day, his reception from fellow employees is applause, but he is soon fired by his supervisor for writing and distributing the new mission statement. How could he have used power and conflict resolution differently? In the attempt to exercise leadership, did he seem to experience strong feelings of vulnerability?
Write about a case analysis in which you respond to the following questions.
How did his attempt at leadership and creating the new mission statement create conflict with his supervisor?
How was the “focus on people, less on money” priority not compatible with the values of the company and most of the sports representative who worked there?
Discuss the following statement. Visions, missions, and strategies must align with the leadership and culture of an organization.
If you were in Jerry Maguire’s position, how would you have attempted to create the changes he desired? How would you have managed the potential conflicts that could result from a new mission in the company?
What is the analysis of power in this example?
Discussion Questions: Of the many definitions related to strategic leadership discussed in this week’s readings, which definition do you find most helpful in understanding the concept of Strategic Leadership. How is Strategic Leadership different from other forms of leadership?

Please remember that your assignment has 3 important components: the literature review which is straightly related to the selected topic, an implementation in your organization where you present how you think you can implement and the expected results. Then the third part which is around the potential challenges faced in such implementation and the critical analysis expected during this implementation.
You cannot omit any of those 3 components
